The Impact of Mentor a Mother

Written by Jahaira

Mentor-a-Mother has made a big impact on my life.  I was very young when I found out I was pregnant.  Not only did I find out I was pregnant, I found out I was expecting twins!  I literally thought my life was over.  I didn’t think I would make it anywhere in life and I was wondering if I could do it on my own.

My teenage life was such a roller coaster while I juggled school, parenting, and working all at once.  Some days, I felt like I was all alone, while other days were filled with joy.  My attendance and grades in school weren’t very good due to just needing a little extra sleep because the twins were up all night.

When I was 17, I joined Mentor-a-Mother through a friend.  It was the best decision I ever made.  Joining Mentor-a-Mother has helped me become the strongest, most independent mother of them all.  It has helped me accomplish more than I could ever think of accomplishing while having kids.  I have bought my own car, gotten my own place, and graduated high school!  Recently, I even earned my CNA.  I can’t give Mentor-a-Mother all the credit though because it was my dedication and motivation that got it done.  They pushed me and motivated me to the point where there was no giving up.  The program itself teaches you the value of being a mother but also the responsibilities.

I would like to give a big ‘thank you’ again to all the mentors and my very own mentor, Kathy!  She provided me with love and pushed me toward everything!  I have one more person I’d like to give a ‘thank you’ to.  I want to thank Emily Simone for being the best mentor/friend anyone can turn to.  You are a very strong, independent person!  Emily, you always give us a shoulder to cry on when someone is hurt.  You always have a back up plan when something goes wrong.  You have been nothing but the best teacher and supporter through it all and I can never thank you enough.  I hope that one day I can be an amazing mentor like you!
